Dance for PEDance can be used as a means to keep fit, increase stamina, co-ordination and teamwork. It also happens to be great fun!Using dance to deliver the PE curriculum helps children to understand their own health and fitness, encourages them to develop an awareness of their bodies, and also to think about the way they can use them. Dance workshops also promote the development of new skills and can help increase memory. Cultural/HistoricalUsing dance for PPA cover is an extremely enjoyable way for pupils to learn the cultural and historical origins of different dances in some detail.Pupils can study a particular style of dance, learning how it is important within its culture. They are then encouraged to discuss how that dance made them feel, expressing mood and emotion. Alternatively pupils might study a style of dance from another Historical period, looking at the significance of dance within society in an earlier time and comparing it with how we use dance in the present day. Studying historical dance can give pupils a greater understanding of day to day life within a particular period. Creative MovementCreative movement is another form of dance that allows pupils to combine storytelling with movement, using music as a stimulus and exploring different ways that they can use their body to create emotions, relationships, ideas, moods and feelings.Studying Creative Movement encourages pupils to explore how different stimuli make our bodies react. Pupils can work on a set theme during these sessions, linking them with storytelling skills and developing their own unique story through movement and expression. Return from
