London Olympics

Celebrate the London Olympics with Caboodle workshops this summer. You can choose from a range of curricula based subjects or we can tailor a number of cross-curricula workshops to suit your needs.

Drama

London Olympics workshops for primary schools Our drama-based workshops use games and exercises that take as their theme the seven Fundamental Principles of the Olympic Movement and highlight how they can be applied to all forms of social interaction. These principles are:

1. Friendship
2. Respect
3. Excellence
4. Inspiration
5. Determination
6. Equality
7. Courage

Speaking & Listening / Debate

Workshops will help improve speaking & listening skills, build pupil confidence in public speaking and raise standards of communication within your school.

Pupils will work on their presentation skills, discover the correct way to use their voices and develop powerful arguments to present their beliefs most effectively. Debate is a wonderful tool to encourage young people to listen to all sides of an argument and become more receptive to considering other points of view.

There are many areas open to debate. Examples are:

1. Positive impact v Cost
2. Legacy v Disruption
3. Importance of the Olympics
4. Olympic Values such as Excellence, Friendship & Respect
5. Celebration of unity and cultural diversity
6. Inspiration for local sports and privilege of being the host country

History

"John Henry Marmeduke de Vere Swiffington-Smythe" is passionate about the Olympics. At the age of 20 he took part in the London games of 1908 and he was present also when they returned, on a shoestring, to London in 1948.

London Olympic workshops for primary schools John Henry recounts the history of the Olympics from Ancient Greece and the legend of Heracles to the present day. He contrasts his own experience in 1908 when just 22 countries took part and Great Britain came top of the medal table, with 2012 asks what should the Olympics offer us and should so much money be spent on them?

Art

Workshops can include projects such as montages, sculptures and models of trophies or silhouettes of different sporting events.

Or, with the help of your pupils we can create a permanent piece of art to commemorate the games, such as wall hangings, paintings and mosaics.

Dance

Explore the Olympics through dances around the world, or let us help your pupils devise dance routines based on the movements of participating sports. The only limit is imagination.
