Refugees

"It has made me think about refugees as friends" Newton Farm School

Refugee Week provides a wonderful opportunity of celebrating the contributions of refugees to the UK, but our performance and workshops can be performed at any time, allowing us to send out a positive message to help counter the ignorance and negative stereotypes that we so often see and hear.

refugee woman and child Afghanistan Our programme also offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of the sanctuary the UK offers and the benefits that it can bring to individuals and communities.

Performance Assembly

Our new mask and physical theatre performance assembly,
No Time to Say Goodbye, tells the story of one refugee family, focusing particularly on the daughter and her journey from a country of conflict to London, a new school, new set of friends and a new life.

Intensive Drama Workshops

These workshops can stand alone or be used to follow-on from an assembly. The workshops have been designed to intensively explore the issues faced by Asylum Seekers & Refugees

They explore stereotypical reactions and their consequences, experiences and emotions of Asylum Seekers and Refugees and celebrate the achievements and contributions that have been made by Asylum Seekers & Refugees.

The aim of the workshops is to help to develop an understanding and appreciation of Refugees as living breathing people. Through the exercises pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their language choices, acknowledge and celebrate difference and diversity, develop team building and co-operation skills and develop tools for conflict resolution.

The workshops are led by 2 facilitators and are suitable for up to 30 pupils. The pupils can either be from the same class or be selected by the school as those pupils who would most benefit from attending the workshop.

We approach the subject from a PSHE platform, using story telling, image and forum theatre.
