Script Writing in Secondary Schools
At secondary level Caboodle workshops focus on script writing (although we can also offer workshops on poetry or story telling) and we can help pupils who are considering writing as a career. We will look with them at what is fashionable or marketable, examing what people are looking for and responding to.
We also offer:
Art & Design
Dance
Debate & Public Speaking
Drama
Performing Arts
Physical Theatre
Singing & Music
Stage Combat

The Process
We still encourage pupils to take a hands-on, practical approach to writing, developing the process through dramatization, but we also examine ways to refine ideas and improve structure, aiming for higher standards of short plays, scripts and monologues often using real characters and situations.
Tutors will guide pupils towards developing plot, characterisation, point-of-view, settings, story structure and narrative and an exploration of different genres and cross-genres and styles.
A sense of pace can be developed through appropriate word, sentence and paragraph length, and relevance of sub-plots and characters to the telling of the tale can be examined. Ways of ‘hooking’ readers or viewers at the outset can also be explored.
Other Creative Writing
Pupils’ ability to express themselves can also be enhanced through poetry and an exploration of the sounds and rhythms inherent in words, as well as simple rhyming structures.
We can teach poetry as a separate writing skill, or as part of the script writing process.
